The Cal State San Bernardino and Cal Poly Pomona basketball teams were well represented on the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association teams released Tuesday. Conference champion Humboldt claimed all the men’s top honors, with Kevin Johnson selected Player of the Year and Tom Wood named Coach of the Year. All five Lumberjack starters made first or second team including Fontana native Jeremiah Ward (13.3 ppg, 2.5 spg), a second-teamer. Junior center Vanessa Wilt (18.2 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 1.46 blocks per game) of the Coyotes, a transfer from Cal Baptist, was the lone local named to the first team on the women’s side. Junior guard Vanessa Dominguez (11.4 ppg) of the Broncos made second team. Senior guard Leora Juster of conference champion UC San Diego was named Player of the Year for the second straight year. The Tritons’ Janelle Jones was Coach of the Year. Chico had the most selections on the women’s side, with junior Amber Simmons named to the first team and three others placed on second team. Cal State also placed senior forward Chet Johnson (10.3 ppg, 1.95 spg) on the second team. Cajon High School graduate Donnelle Booker of the Broncos was tabbed Freshman of the Year, making it two straight years Cal Poly has snagged that award. Gordon was named last year.
