Sega Could be Launching Subscription Service Called Sega Forever on Mobile

Even video games are dabbling with this business model with services like EA Access. If a recent report turns out to be true, we may see a subscription-based service from none other than Sega.Recently, YouTuber Shawn Long (of RGT 85) posted a video where he talked about something called Sega Forever. He was made aware of this service by a Twitter follower named @BearKiddy who hails from the Philippines. This story was also picked up by SegaNerds and NeoGAF.BearKiddy sent Long images of Comix Zone for iOS. The main menu features options for “AD-FREE” and “SEGAzine.” Clicking on AD-FREE takes users to a page that shows the game has ad-supported and ad-free versions. The ad-supported version has cloud-saves, but the ad-free version has cloud saves and local saves. This option also has a button that says “SEGA_FOREVER_BUY_FOR.” On the very bottom of this page, it says “SEGA games may be featured upon launch.”BearKiddy says that when he booted up Comix Zone, a screen popped up that asked him to subscribe to the Sega Forever newsletter. BearKiddy also said he was sent a Sega Forever survey from Sega prior to all of this. The survey had a list of titles that could potentially be on the service. This included titles like Virtua Cop, Panzer Dragoon, and (of course) Sonic the Hedgehog.Adding more credence to all of this is the fact Sega has registered Sega Forever accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Reddit. None of these are active at the moment. For now, Sega Forever appears to strictly be a mobile-based service. Hopefully, if this all turns out to be legit, we’ll eventually see the service on consoles and PC.E3 is only a few short weeks away. Hopefully, Sega will divulge more information about Sega Forever at that time.last_img read more
