Latest Pokémon Go Update Adds New Quests Storylines and More

first_imgStay on target Though not as wildly popular as it once was, Pokémon Go still retains a dedicated following. This is thanks to Niantic giving players of the mobile game new content every few months. The latest round of updates will give the augmented reality title significant heft with the addition of new quests, storylines, and pocket monsters. As Kotaku notes, this latest update was already known about thanks to the efforts of data miners. While Pokémon isn’t exactly known for having a deeply complex story, some narratives regarding the origin of specific creatures can be quite interesting. Adding quests to the mobile title also gives it some kind of framework. Now players will have a narrative-driven goal to work towards beyond simply catching as many digital monsters as possible.“Trainers will begin receiving research tasks later this week, adding new activities and challenges that can be completed for in-game rewards,” said Niantic in a press release. “Some of these rewards will lead Trainers to access unique storylines that include discovering the mystery behind the Mythical Pokémon Mew.”The company continued by saying: “Pokémon Go’s new research feature will provide Trainers with unique activities called Field Research and Special Research. Field Research tasks can be collected by spinning nearby PokéStops, and they include a wide range of Pokémon-related activities. Special Research tasks are story-driven activities that may be requested by Professor Willow himself, and they will unfold as the Trainer completes more objectives.”I never got into the whole Pokémon Go craze but I always appreciate seeing Niantic keeping the fanbase happy with new features. I’m sure some lapsed players will return to check out the new quests and storylines. If these prove popular with the community (which I’m sure they will), I can see Niantic adding more content like this in the future. Pokémon Go may not grab headlines like it once did, but it’s certainly not going away any time soon.
