Cops for Cancer Tour de North returning for another year

first_imgThe Canadian Cancer Society’s Cops for Cancer Tour de North team is training for an 850 kilometre long bike ride from Dawson Creek to Williams Lake, taking place from September 15 – 21. The origins of the event date back to 1994 in Edmonton, and Cops for Cancer events in B.C. are currently in their 17th year.Nineteen riders will make up this year’s Tour de North team with two members being from Dawson Creek, and another from Tumbler Ridge.Cops for Cancer originated with an Edmonton officer back in 1994, when he got wind of a child who had gone through chemotherapy and was being teased at school for the loss of his hair. The officer and a couple friends than decided to shave their heads, make an appearance at the school, and declare it as the ‘in’ style.- Advertisement -After starting the tour in Dawson Creek riders will be making their way to Fort St. John, Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd, Powder King Mountain Resort, Mackenzie, Prince George, Quesnel, and Williams Lake. As stops are made in each community those on the tour will be participating in various fundraising events and speaking engagements.The fundraising goal for this year is $2.4 million.last_img read more
