BILINGUAL, MONEY MAGNET, and MARLENE MY LOVE, fillies who have played second fiddle to SHE’S A MANEATER in their last two races, finally get a chance to emerge from the 1000 Guineas winner’s shadow in this afternoon’s Caribbean Choice Jamaica Oaks. The trio was second, third and fourth, respectively, behind SHE’S A MANEATER in the 1000 Guineas three weeks ago, almost the same order in which they had finished in last month’s Thornbird Stakes, save MONEY MAGNET being second then. With SHE’S A MANEATER out of the Oaks, nursing a pulled muscle and being reprogrammed by champion trainer Wayne DaCosta for June’s Jamaica Derby, the Oaks plot has been thickened by her withdrawal. The distance of 10 furlongs is virgin territory for the top three contending fillies. None have gone past a mile or have attempted two turns in a competitive race, a factor which could turn the race on its head despite BILINGUAL appearing to be the best closer of the lot. Going a mile in the Guineas, MONEY MAGNET and BILINGUAL ran practically the same race, trying to keep pace with SHE’S A MANEATER, who changed gears inside the final half-furlong to win by four lengths. MARLENE MY LOVE, meanwhile, ran a contrasting Guineas race, opting to sit in the pace instead of taking charge as she had done on the lead in the Thornbird Stakes. However, the change in tactics didn’t make a difference as she again proved fourth best. CUNNING JOCKEY Whereas MARLENE MY LOVE will have to improve on her Thornbird stakes and 1000 Guineas efforts, MONEY MAGNET, in particular, is rather game and should not be underestimated, having twice finished ahead of BILINGUAL before the Guineas. Though BILINGUAL got the better of her for second behind SHE’S A MANEATER in the Guineas, MONEY MAGNET’s new rider, Shane Ellis, who replaces apprentice Bebeto Harvey, is a cunning jockey, who could use his smarts to steal the race from in front. What BILINGUAL has going for her is a super-confident rider, Robert Halledeen. He rode the perfect race in the Guineas, sitting almost atop SHE’S A MANEATER’s hind quarters from a half-mile out, but was simple outclassed in the stretch run. BILINGUAL, on breeding, should stay 10 furlongs better than MONEY MAGNET. Halledeen is bang in form and relishes the big occasions, which should counter any scheme Ellis could have up his sleeves to steal a march on the field.

The global football governing body made the announcement on Monday.Football for Hope Football for Hope was launched in 2005 with the aim of helping children and youngsters in poor communities to transform their lives through football. The social investment and development programme operates on a global scale, and includes among its projects the 20 Centres for 2010 campaign initiated ahead of the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The campaign aims to build 20 centres around Africa to help address some of the challenges faced by the continent, including education and public health. So far, four Football for Hope centres have been built: in Kayelitsha outside Cape Town, South Africa; Mathare in Nairobi, Kenya; Katutura township in Windhoek, Namibia; and in Baguineda, Mali.Football ‘kept me going’ Pienaar can certainly identify with the issues that Football for Hope tackles, having grown up surrounded by poverty in Johannesburg’s Westbury township. In 2006, a law that banned the buses’ art and music was implemented, to much public outcry. The law lead to a dramatic drop in the number of bus operators in Kenya.That law was eventually lifted in 2015, but drivers and fans of the buses are concerned that a proposed new regulation to ban the larger, 14-seater buses may begin to wipe out the cultural tradition of the matatu, and more importantly, the operators’ livelihood.Nairobi resident Brian Wanyama began the Matwana Matatu Culture website to document the vibrant traditions of the buses and to protect the heritage of what they represented. German cable operator Primacom has signed up its 100,000th internet customer.The milestone comes 15 years after the operator initially launched internet services. More recently the company has invested in an extensive fibre network build-out, bringing advanced services to a wider number of customers.Primacom customer Steffen Preiß was named as the lucky 100,000th customer and given free high-speed internet for one year.Primacom chief executive Joachim Grendel said the company would soon be able to deliver even higher speed services.
All3Media International and TV4 Entertainment are joining forces for an OTT initiative that will see the pair launch a range of online channels, DTVE‘s sister title TBI can reveal.The agreement between All3Media’s international arm and US-based TV4 will see the pair work up online channels that will be distributed over the top, as well as through the Amazon Channels package and third-party platforms.The partners plan to launch a range of targeted OTT channels in different genres, with the first service themed around homes and gardens. That is yet to be named, but will launch this spring.As well as mining the All3Media catalogue for content, it is understood that TV4 will work up original content for the OTT channels, with All3Media International having a first-look deal that gives it an option to coproduce, co-finance and distribute.All3Media International is the commercial and distribution arm of Discovery Communications – and Liberty Global-backed production group All3Media.
